DRS Wins $92 M Follow-On Contract to Support SPAWAR Internet Cafe Program
DRS Technologies, Inc. a Finmeccanica Company, announced that its Global Enterprise Solutions International division of DRS Technical Services has received a $92 million contract for continued IT support to the military’s Internet Café program, which is operated by the U.S. Navy Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) Atlantic-European Office.
The work will be performed in Iraq (40 percent); Afghanistan (40 percent); and Stuttgart, Germany (20 percent) and is expected to be completed by April 2015. The award includes options, which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of the overall contract to an estimated $269 Million.
DRS has been supporting this SPAWAR program since September 2007. Under terms of this indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity (IDIQ), firm-fixed price contract, DRS will provide systems engineering, analysis, design development, acquisition, integration, installation, testing, maintenance and integrated logistic support for satellite and communication systems.
SPAWAR helps to keep the Navy well connected to its resources and people around the globe, using superior information technology to deliver advanced communications products and services.
“The Internet Café program is extremely important to our military members serving in remote and harsh environments,” says DRS Technical Services President Mitchell Rambler. “They can keep in touch with loved ones and services back home in ways that are not possible without this technology. We are pleased and proud to be associated with the program and the award makes it possible for us to continue our involvement and reflects our strong performance and resulting customer confidence.”
“Going forward,” Rambler notes, “the program will expand wireless capability, significantly increasing connectivity with faster connection speeds.”
