SmallSats Multi-Launch Agreement between Firefly and ALS
Firefly Aerospace, Inc and Adaptive Launch Solutions (ALS), announced they have signed a multi-year Launch Services Agreement (LSA) which includes four Alpha launches beginning in 2021.
Firefly Aerospace Inc., Austin, TX, is committed to providing economical and convenient access to space for small payloads through the design, manufacture and operation of reliable launch vehicles. The Firefly team addresses the market’s need for flexible access to space with a “simplest/soonest” approach to technology selection. Firefly launch vehicles embody the insights of a diverse design team and leverage commercial off–the–shelf (COTS) components, manufactured by suppliers across the United States, to reduce risk, maximize reliability and minimize development time.
Led by CEO Tom Markusic and a team of space industry veterans, Firefly is on track to deliver a US solution for the 1,000 to 4,000 kg payload class to LEO by early 2021 for a starting price of $15M. Firefly is committed to doing its part to restore U.S. leadership in the small to medium launch market, and is establishing international offices and strategic partnerships to effectively serve the global market.
Adaptive Launch Solutions (ALS), San Diego, CA, is a Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB) that provides pico, nano, micro, mini, and small satellites full launch integration services on Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle (EELV), Medium Launch Vehicles (MLVs) and Small Launch Vehicles (SLVs). Beginning in 2010, ALS in cooperation with United Launch Alliance (ULA), Office of Space Launch (OSL), and NASA worked to enable science and technology missions gain access to available space through multi-manifesting small satellites on US Government Manifested launches. During that period, ALS began developing auxiliary satellite mission designs, mechanical and avionic systems, as well as engineering analysis and integration procedures for multi-manifest mission success

ALS brings to our Firefly partnership decades of launch integration experience, most recently utilized on the United States Space Force (USSF) Launch Manifest Systems Integrator (LMSI) program. The LMSI program team delivers capabilities and integration approaches that establish U.S. government enterprise-wide capability for small satellite delivery to space.”

Firefly is preparing for the first launch of the Alpha vehicle in early 2021. Acceptance testing of both Stage 1 and Stage 2 for Flight 1 have been completed, and Firefly’s Vandenberg Air Force Base Space Launch Complex 2 launch site is nearing completion and activation.
