Information on the new Saab Contract with Swedish Civil Security are not disclosed.
Defence and security company SAAB has signed a contract within the civil security area, worth MSEK 120.
The contract is scheduled for the time period of 2010 – 2012 and includes several security solutions and installations. The contract is of strategic importance to Saab and is a significant breakthrough for security solutions in the central European market.
At the request of the customer and similarly to what has been done in other European Countries (eg Italy), further details of the contract or about the customer will not be announced.

The twin-track strategy reflects Saab’s new priorities as defense contracts from Sweden’s government have been thinning out. Saab now wants to more rapidly internationalize its defense business, but also expand its technology-driven civil product and service operations.
Saab recently created a separate unit for civil security to beef up civil industry sales. “Our offer includes security products, systems and complete solutions for the protection of critical infrastructure, as well as crisis management and traffic management solutions for air, land and sea transport,” said Gunilla Fransson, who has been named the unit’s managing director.
in the recent past SAAB provided physical protection and perimeter surveillance to the Ringhals and Oskarshamn nuclear power plants in Sweden for more than $75 million, and other $47 million to deliver surveillance gear to four correctional institutions and remand centers in Sweden.
Defense technologies are being used as drivers for the civil security unit’s operations. For example, the surveillance systems that Saab will supply to the prison and remand centers are based on the Saab Net Centric Security concept and rebranded as Net Centric Correctional Facility solutions.
SAAB is also active in the upgrades of nationwide security communication network in Sweden. Ihe system, called RAKEL is operated by the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) and is a TETRA network, providing radio communications to over 10,000 users in organizations involved with public order, security and health. Nokia Siemens Networks’ Dynanet platform and FlexiHopper microwave radios underpin the IP/SDH transport backbone.
